Finding the right place to stay in Savukoski is not always straightforward. This corner of Eastern Lapland sits far from the well-worn tourist trails, and genuine, comfortable Savukoski accommodation that puts you right in the middle of the wilderness is rarer than you might expect.
We are based at Samperintie 34, on the banks of the Kemijoki river, surrounded by fells, rivers and vast protected wilderness. This is where your Lapland trip actually begins.
Why Savukoski Is Worth the Journey
Savukoski is one of the most sparsely populated areas in Europe. Around one third of its land is under nature conservation, which means the wilderness here is genuine, not curated.
There are no crowds. No queues for snowmobile routes. No elbow-to-elbow fishing spots.
What you get instead is space, silence and some of the most dramatic fell and river scenery in Finland. Whether you are planning a winter adventure or visiting Lapland in spring, the landscape rewards you at every turn. We offer a full range of winter and summer activities so you can make the most of whichever season you choose.
The journey here takes effort. That effort is exactly why it stays this good.
Hotel Rooms in Savukoski Village
If you want comfort without compromise, our main building gives you just that. This is the only hotel in Savukoski sitting directly on the Kemijoki riverbank, and it shows in the views.
We have 12 double rooms, each with a loft that can sleep two extra guests. Every room includes:
- TV and private shower
- A drying cabinet for wet outdoor gear
- Breakfast included every morning
- Full use of the hotel sauna
This is a Lapland hotel with breakfast and sauna included as standard. You do not pay extra for the things that matter most after a day in the cold.
Rooms start from 77 € for a single and from 105 € for a double. These are current list prices and should be confirmed at the time of booking.
Our restaurant is in the same building, serving hearty, locally sourced food. After a day on the ice or in the fells, that matters more than you might think.

Cottages with a Private Sauna and Fireplace
Prefer your own space? A cottage with sauna in Lapland gives you the freedom to set your own rhythm, light the fire when you feel like it, and stay as long as the evening calls for it.
We have six cottages next to the hotel, all with direct access to the river setting. Four sleep up to four people, and two sleep up to six. Every cottage includes:
- A private sauna
- A fireplace
- TV and mini kitchen
- A drying cabinet for outdoor clothing and equipment
A Lapland cottage with private sauna and fireplace starts from 90 € for four people, or from 110 € for six. Breakfast and bed linen are not included in the cottage rate but can be ordered as extras when you book.
Looking for a family cottage for six in Lapland? Our two larger cottages are built for exactly that. Enough space for everyone, without anyone feeling cramped.
Pets are welcome in some of our cottages. If you are travelling with an animal, ask us when you enquire and we will confirm which units are available. We also have pet-friendly rooms in the hotel, so a pet-friendly cottage in Lapland or a pet-friendly room is always worth asking about directly.
Hotel Room or Cottage: Which Suits Your Trip?
The honest answer depends on how you travel. Here is a straightforward comparison to help you decide.
| Option | Sleeps | Included | Order as extras | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single room | 1 (plus 2 in loft) | Breakfast, hotel sauna, shower, TV, drying cabinet | Activities, equipment hire | 77 € |
| Double room (with loft) | 2 (plus 2 in loft) | Breakfast, hotel sauna, shower, TV, drying cabinet | Activities, equipment hire | 105 € |
| 4-person cottage | 4 | Private sauna, fireplace, mini kitchen, TV, drying cabinet | Breakfast, bed linen, activities | 90 € |
| 6-person cottage | 6 | Private sauna, fireplace, mini kitchen, TV, drying cabinet | Breakfast, bed linen, activities | 110 € |
A hotel room suits shorter stays and those who want breakfast ready each morning and the restaurant within easy reach. A cottage suits families, groups and anyone who prefers a self-catering rhythm with their own sauna to come back to. Both options include a drying cabinet, which is a genuine practical advantage when you are spending long days outdoors in Lapland conditions.
Staying Deeper in the Wilderness Near the National Park
For some travellers, the village is still too close to civilisation. If you want to go further, we can point you in the right direction.
About 70 km north-east of Savukoski village, and about 10 km south of Urho Kekkonen National Park, you will find riverside cottages in Tulppio, close to the national park. This is a separate site on the Nuorttijoki river in the Koilliskaira wilderness, offering a truly remote base for those who want to be as close to untouched nature as possible.
For enquiries about Tulppio, contact them directly by email at info@tulppio.fi or by phone at +358 16 844 101.

Where to stay in Eastern Lapland for wilderness activities?
Our location on the Kemijoki river puts you within reach of snowmobile safaris, husky sled rides, reindeer farm visits, ice fishing and snowshoeing in winter, and canoeing, fishing and guided hiking in summer. Equipment hire is available for self-guided trips, and you can rent outdoor equipment directly through us. This makes us a practical base for anyone focused on where to stay in Eastern Lapland with activities in mind.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are allowed in some rooms and some cottages. When you make your enquiry, let us know you are travelling with a pet and we will confirm which options are available for you.

Yes. We have meeting and event venues alongside our accommodation, and we can help arrange group programmes. Get in touch with your group size and dates and we will put together the right combination for you.
What is the difference between the Savukoski hotels and the Tulppio site?

The Tulppio site is a more remote, self-sufficient option for those who want to be closer to the national park. Both serve different kinds of travellers, and we are happy to help you work out which fits your plans.
